Mr Campbell said,
“When lockdown restrictions were introduced in March 2020, I asked the Department if these would have any impact on the projected opening of the A6. I was told then that it should still open as planned in Spring 2022. More than a year later the road is finally opening this week in April 2023.
It is important that we learn the full reasons behind the delays and to that end, an inquiry, where every aspect of the project would be scrutinised, would be useful in preventing reoccurrences in future large scale projects.
The saga dragged on so long that is has damaged public confidence in the Department’s ability to manage projects on this scale therefore an inquiry would help restore confidence and demonstrate that important lessons have been learned.”
