Mrs Dodds was one of the sponsors of the report's launch at Parliament Buildings, Stormont today.
Speaking afterwards she said, "I was delighted to work with Employers for Childcare in hosting the launch of this report. It is a very valuable insight into the importance of childcare and early years in tackling disadvantage and ensuring all our children reach their full potential. The costs of childcare are an enormous burden for families, and it simply isn't affordable for many.
There is an obvious need for a full childcare strategy in Northern Ireland, but the report recognises the work which has already been carried out laying the groundwork for future action. Michelle McIlveen as Education Minister set the wheels in motion to ensure all children aged 3/4 have access to a minimum of 22.5 hours funded pre-school education per week. The authors have recognised that this offers a starting point from which to move forward from.
The DUP will continue to champion the need for investment in our childcare sector, and to lobby central government to take action on the tax-free allowance which could make a significant difference. Ensuring we have an effective childcare sector can make a huge difference across our education system and in the wider economy. It must be a priority as we move forward."
