Mrs Dodds said,

“Minutes before the EU responded to the Government’s Protocol Bill, Simon Coveney was on the phone to the EU Vice President and told his twitter followers afterwards that the way forward was more negotiations, only for the EU to leave him red faced.

Back on 22 May, Maros Sefcovic told us there would be “no renegotiation” of the Protocol and again yesterday reminded us that “there would be no renegotiation” of the Protocol yet Coveney like an EU performing clown is still telling us to negotiate. His determination to slavishly defend unreasonable EU behaviour is incredible.

Simon needs to stop talking at unionists and start listening to unionists who have been telling him for two years that the Protocol is flawed and needed addressed. The EU’s ears have been closed to renegotiation for two years because they have a good deal for Brussels and a bad deal for Belfast.

The DUP is focused on a reasonable path forward which protects the EU single market but gives us unfettered access to our most important market in the rest of the United Kingdom.”
