Students deserve clarity on degree classifications: Dodds

DUP Education Spokesperson Diane Dodds has said students deserve clarity about their degree classifications. Hundreds of students at Queen’s University will not receive their full classification due to industrial action by lecturers.

The Upper Bann MLA said, “Hundreds of students will emerge from university this summer effectively in limbo over their degree result which could significant impact their employment prospects.

Many of these are students will have already had their degree course substantially impacted due to Covid yet they have been paying full fees for the duration of that course. Now once again they are being disadvantaged through no fault of their own.

There needs to be a resolution to the pay dispute. Lecturers deserve a pay increase, but this action could have a lasting impact on students future employment and prospects. These students deserve clarity because their salary could well be impacted because they are unable to fully demonstrate their qualifications to a future employer.

They deserve to hear from both the University and the Union as to what steps are being taken to resolve a dispute which is entirely outside of their control yet is impacting significantly upon their life and future career.”
