“For Naomi Long to try and score a political point over Russia is deeply misguided. Several in our party, including me, were sanctioned by the Putin government. I wear this as a badge of honour but I don’t remember too many Alliance representatives being santicioned by Russia.
Since the illegal and barbaric invasion of Ukraine, I have consistently supported Ukraine’s right to defend its sovereignty, its people, and its democracy. I stand fully behind the Ukrainian people in their courageous resistance against Russian aggression, and I will continue to speak out in Parliament and beyond to ensure the UK remains resolute in its support for Ukraine.
Russia’s decision to sanction me has not deterred my work or silenced my voice. If anything, it strengthens my resolve to ensure the truth is heard, and to hold Vladimir Putin’s regime accountable for its war crimes and violations of international law.
The people of Northern Ireland understand the importance of standing firm against tyranny. I will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine until victory and peace are achieved.”
