Due in the Commons tomorrow for second reading, it still does not include Northern Ireland.

Calling for that to change, Mr Robinson said;

“The Horizon system was imposed upon Post Masters across the United Kingdom.

Throughout our Country, earnest and honest Post Masters were convicted wrongly in a catastrophic failure with devastating personal consequences.

The Government has a responsibility to step in and right the wrong. Building on the efforts of my colleague, Sammy Wilson MP, I found the Minister sympathetic to the inclusion of Northern Ireland. The issue is solely one of political will.

The Minister should be comforted that this is an issue which has achieved unity of purpose across the political spectrum in Northern Ireland. The First, Deputy First and Justice Ministers have already written to demonstrate their desire that Westminster legislate on our behalf.

Respect for devolution is important, but it shouldn’t stand in the way of an effective, achievable solution for the Post Masters affected in Northern Ireland. With support across the Commons, the Minister knows will we take every legislative step available to include Northern Ireland. I trust however, that acknowledging the unity of purpose across the province, he will concede and appropriately include as the bill progresses.”
