Robinson Calls on RoI to hold Public Inquiry into Omagh Bombing

The Leader of the Democratic Unionist Party Rt. Hon. Gavin Robinson MP today pressed the Prime Minister in the House of Commons on the need for the Republic of Ireland to hold a public inquiry into the 1998 Omagh bombing, which claimed 31 lives, including unborn twins, and injured over 220 people.

Following his exchange with the Prime Minister, the DUP Leader said:

“The families of the Omagh bombing victims have fought a courageous fight for truth and justice. The Government has rightly acted by launching a full public inquiry.

This was the deadliest atrocity of the Troubles, and it is unacceptable that the Dublin Government is refusing to provide a structure which could help bring answers. The victims and their families deserve truth, accountability, and justice on both sides of the border.

I trust the Prime Minister will use his office to challenge the Taoiseach and his Government to do the right thing. The Republic of Ireland cannot continue to ignore the fact that this bomb was planned, prepared and transported from south of the border. Their refusal to hold an inquiry only raises further questions.

The DUP will continue to stand with the victims’ families and press for truth and justice in this horrific attack.”
