Speaking from Parliament, Mr Shannon said,

“The Government must take urgent steps to protect Northern Ireland’s interests and ensure our place in the UK internal market is fully safeguarded. There is still a lot of detail to be worked through, but what is clear is that President Trump’s tariffs will have a far-reaching impact on international trade but importantly for us, Northern Ireland is vulnerable to being caught in the crossfire of any EU retaliation.

My Party Leader Gavin Robinson made the same case to the Prime Minister yesterday. The Prime Minister has said he will protect the National interest. That must include Northern Ireland.

We will continue to fight day and daily to safeguard Northern Ireland’s economic interests. The best way to do that is by fully restoring our place in the UK internal market - anything less leaves us at risk.”
