The Autism (Amendment) Bill passed it's final stage in the Northern Ireland Assembly on 7th March 2022.

Mrs Cameron said

"I am delighted that Royal Assent has now been granted for my Bill. This Bill should mark a step change in the manner in which Government Departments provide support for those with Autism and their families.

The Bill will strengthen the Autism Strategy, increase autism training opportunities, create an Autism information service, compel the Department of Health to publish prevalence data and provide an annual report to the NI Assembly on how funding has met the needs of our Autism Community. An 'Autism Reviewer' position will also be facilitated to commission research and independently hold our Government to account.

The Bill also critically will create a region-wide Early Intervention Service, ending the postcode lottery on services.

The onus is now on the Stormont Department's to implement this Bill in full and deliver much-needed positive change.

I again want to thank the excellent background support provided for this Bill from the team at Autism NI."
