Mr Middleton said
"The Airport is crucial to the economy of the northwest region. The connectivity it provides is vital and particularly our links with the rest of the United Kingdom.
There are financial pressures now facing the Airport which could have a detrimental impact on jobs and other infrastructure projects within the Council area. This needs serious attention.
There are commitments within the New Decade New Approach agreement relating to City of Derry Airport. The Minister for Infrastructure needs to bring forward proposals to ease the financial burden on ratepayers in the Londonderry and Strabane area and to provide a sustainable funding model for the airport going forward.
I recently visited the airport with Economy Minister Gordon Lyons. The Economy Minister has participated in the Union Connectivity Review and his Department also funds the public service obligation which maintains the Stansted route from Londonderry.
I will continue to work closely with the Economy Minister as we seek to maximise the potential the Airport has and deliver the benefits it can bring to the wider region.
We need other Ministers to step up and deliver the commitments within the remit of their departments.”
