East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson said:
“The decision not to pay compensation to these women is shameful.
The Government must stop hiding behind excuses when it comes to delivering justice for the WASPI women. When in opposition, the Labour Party campaigned for redress for WASPI women, yet now that they are in Government they are dragging their feet.
There is no doubt whatsoever that these women have been treated unfairly. Those affected worked hard and paid into the system all their working lives, and yet were blindsided by a policy change that left them financially stranded.
This is not just an issue of fairness but one of justice. The Government has a duty to right this wrong and offer appropriate redress without further delay.”
Jim Shannon, MP for Strangford, said:
“WASPI women have waited long enough. They have campaigned long and hard, yet their pleas have fallen on deaf ears for far too long.
It is unacceptable that women born in the 1950s were left in such an unjust position due to the failures of public servants and Government at the time. The Government of today must take responsibility – they cannot continue to dismiss their situation. It is time for action, not excuses.
Justice delayed is justice denied, and the WASPI women must not be denied any longer.”
