“HM Government must rapidly restore its One Nation approach” Sir Jeffrey

As part of Sir Jeffrey’s continued campaign against the Irish Sea Border, he outlined how the Protocol undermined the fundamental principles of One Nation Conservatism.

The DUP Leader said.

“The democratic illegitimacy of the Northern Ireland Protocol is a major cause of concern for all of those who value the importance of our parliamentary democracy.

The requirement for Northern Ireland to be subject to EU laws, without any say or input by its people or its representatives, is simply indefensible.

Equality under the law to enjoy the rights and freedoms of being citizens of the United Kingdom is a central tenet of One Nation Conservatism. This basic and fundamental principle is being denied to the people of Northern Ireland by the continued imposition of the Protocol with a trade border between one part of the U.K. and another.

Northern Ireland has had access to lifesaving medicines placed in doubt, our businesses forced to pay 27% more to move products within our United Kingdom and our economy is losing £2.5 million each and every day.

Only by swiftly restoring Northern Ireland’s place within the Internal Market of the United Kingdom, can those issues which run contrary to these fundamental principles be resolved.

The views of the One Nation Caucus will play an important role in influencing the actions of the Government in the coming days. I warmly welcome this opportunity to articulate why HM Government must rapidly restore its One Nation approach.”
