Mr Robinson said, “The Secretary of State indicated in December that he would engage in a programme of consultation but the clear message today was that the whilst the Government may be talking to victims they are not listening. Indicating to groups any plans the government without taking on board what they have to say is not a process of consultation.
Whilst the UK Government can be accused about a lack of proper consultation the Irish Government demonstrate a complete lack of any action whatsoever. Yet again we heard from across the spectrum of victims that they want to see the Irish Government step up. This has been most sharply brought into focus recently through the failure to establish an inquiry into the Omagh bombing. However, more widely, Dublin cannot ignore the role that was played by the Republic of Ireland throughout the troubles. Whilst there is rightly a focus on what the UK Government is doing in relation to legacy, there needs to be an equal focus and equal pressure applied to the Irish Government.”
