“Extreme difficulty” in removing antisemitic graffiti a depressing admission: Dodds

DUP MLA Diane Dodds has said the admission from the Belfast Trust that it faced “extreme difficulty” getting a contractor to remove antisemitic graffiti from a wall of the RVH on the Falls Road is a depressing admission and called for public support for the removal of such antisemitic rhetoric.

Mrs Dodds had raised the issue at the meeting of the Health Committee. Speaking afterward she said, “It is obviously disappointing that graffiti that has been in place for almost six months still currently remains in place. However, I recognise the difficulties the Trust encountered when attempting to secure a contractor to remove it. The fact they faced difficulties is a depressing admission.

Maureen Edwards from the Trust told the Committee they faced “extreme difficulty in getting anyone to take the graffiti down” and even in their current plans to do so, that it might be done at night.

There is an obvious question about why contractors would be so fearful about the removal of this graffiti which is on a main thoroughfare in the city. I would hope that local representatives there would make clear that they would welcome the removal of this slogan and play a part in reducing any concerns that contractors might have.”
