Mrs Erskine said, “It was hugely disappointing when £15million UK Government funding for the A4 Southern by-pass was paused last year as a result of the Secretary of State’s budget decisions. The restoration of that funding has been accompanied by £16.2million from the NI Executive and £12.5 will be funded from the Mid South West Growth Deal.

This investment will make a significant difference to Enniskillen, which can quickly become congested with traffic and will deliver an economic boost not just to the town, but to the surrounding area.

It is welcome not just that the funding has been announced, but there is a recognition of the need to move quickly in order to avoid costs from increasing further. The campaign on this project has been ongoing for some time, and was taken forward by my predecessor Arlene Foster. Everyone will warmly welcome the fact that it is now possible to move forward to the procurement stage and I will continue to monitor progress to ensure that we see work commencing on the ground as quickly as possible.”
