Education Minister announces first RAISE Programme Initiatives across Northern Ireland

Education Minister Paul Givan has today announced the first tranche of cross-cutting initiatives to be rolled out over the next two years under the RAISE Programme.

The initiatives have been designed to provide an assessment of their effectiveness in tackling educational disadvantage across all types of education setting.

They will allow schools to avail of opportunities to work together to develop professional learning clusters, take part in research into the impact of AI on literacy, bring opportunities for children and young people to improve their digital literacy and put in place literacy, numeracy and revision support for children and young people in collaboration with communities.

£3.5m of the RAISE Programme funding has been allocated to deliver the initiatives announced today in the 25/26 and 26/27 academic years.

Paul Givan said:

“Today I am announcing an initial tranche of seven RAISE Cross-Cutting Initiatives. They will complement the ongoing work in each of the 18 RAISE localities to deliver a range of educational support measures for children and young people in these areas and beyond.

“The RAISE Programme provides an important opportunity to look afresh at the educational issues linked to and perpetuated by deprivation and to drive forward a whole community, place-based approach to remove the barriers to learning and educational achievement that some of our children and young people are facing. These new initiatives will be open to all schools and will provide opportunities to pilot innovative proposals, support research methodologies and build evidence for sustainable change.

“My department will work to develop these initiatives over the next number of weeks to allow this initial tranche of projects to be put in place for the new academic year.”

In addition to the cross-cutting initiatives announced today, area specific objectives identified in Strategic Area Plans are currently being developed by each of the 18 RAISE localities across Northern Ireland.
