Mr Robinson said,
“We have opposed the Bill consistently as a matter of principle. Legalising assisted suicide fundamentally alters the role of healthcare, shifting focus from preserving life to ending it and risks undermining the value of life in our society. This raises profound ethical concerns and sets a dangerous precedent.
The bill’s uncapped spending allocation compounds these issues. Granting unlimited public funds to the development of such a controversial policy will risk mismanaging scarce resources, diverting them from essential services like palliative care, mental health support, and broader healthcare needs.
We should focus on improving end-of-life care, ensuring dignity and support without normalising assisted suicide.”
