Gavin Robinson said:
“The letter to the Speaker from the Taoiseach is another example of the Irish Government’s smoke and mirrors approach to the Omagh Bomb Inquiry.
It is both deeply regrettable and sadly unsurprising that the Government of the Irish Republic continues to obstruct the Omagh families in their pursuit of truth.
Twenty-nine innocent lives and two unborn children were lost in the Omagh bombing. Every victim and their family deserve full clarity on how that tragic day unfolded. Central to this is understanding the role played by authorities in the Republic, especially given that the bomb was planned, assembled, and transported from their jurisdiction.
The Taoiseach knows the memorandum of understanding does not achieve that full openness and transparency. It merely looks at the role of the U.K. rather than looking at the role of the Republic of Ireland.”
Tom Buchanan, West Tyrone DUP MLA, added:
“Whilst time moves on, the scars of the Omagh bomb will always be upon the town and its people.
As we earnestly search for the truth around how this horrific act of terrorism unfolded, all those who can assist in this must do so with sincerity and the desire to provide the families the answers they crave. That includes Dublin.”
