The Upper Bann MLA said, “I have been in contact with SEAG over recent days and I share their desire to ensure the transfer test procedure is robust and effective. It is clear that some parents were not able to complete the application process on time, but this short extension provides an opportunity to ensure that no-one misses out.
The transfer test only exists because many thousands of parents enrol their children for the test. That parental choice is testament to the support for transfer to post-primary school using academic criteria.
There obviously must be a cut-off point for applications because there is a detailed process for SEAG to complete once applications have been received. However, particularly in this first year of operation even a short additional period can provide the flexibility necessary to accommodate everyone. With the short extension granted it is now absolutely vital that anyone seeking to apply ensures they do so before 5pm on Monday. There should now be no-one who will be unaware of the need to meet this new deadline.”
