Mrs Dodds said, “This Bill is an
important step forward in tackling period poverty and I would like to
congratulate Pat Catney for having steered it through the legislative
process.
No woman or girl should ever feel
stigmatised because they are unable to afford period products or do not
have access to them. The Bill builds upon a firm foundation that was
laid by DUP Ministers. I brought forward an initial pilot projects to
provide free period products for students at a number of higher
education students and Michelle McIlveen launched a similar scheme
across school settings.
There was a clear unity of purpose across the Assembly in relation to this Bill and it is a very positive note to form part of the last sitting day of this mandate.”
