Book Week NI is a joint initiative by Libraries NI and BBC NI to support literacy and learning opportunities across all communities.

Following his visit, Minister Lyons said: “Reading is one of the greatest pleasures which can truly enrich our lives. We all have a favourite book which we have read over and over and, for many people, reading can be a simple escape and a chance to unwind.

“At our local libraries there is a range of literature, magazines, children’s books and non-fiction to suit everyone’s tastes, and I believe books and reading are for everyone. Libraries and the choice of services they provide are important in encouraging readers from an early age. High standards of literacy will only benefit our local communities and give individuals the confidence and skills to pursue their goals.”

Minister Lyons adds: “There are so many events happening this week including Unplug and Read, helping you swap your screen time for book time, The Big Read initiative and a host of author talks and other workshops taking place online or at a library near you.”
