Mr Brett said,

“Sinn Fein is not a normal political party. The Chief Constable previously reported how Sinn Fein is controlled by shadowy army council figures. These revelations however in a Dublin courtroom now raise serious questions about the influence of international crime gangs over Sinn Fein and in turn our local elections.

Former Sinn Fein Councillor Jonathan Dowdall was working hand in glove with the Dublin gangs and transferring money into Mary Lou McDonald’s campaign war-chest. Dowdall was clearly a thug who waterboarded people he fell out with. Yet Sinn Fein was happy to take his cash.

Michelle O’Neill and Mary Lou McDonald need to make a clear statement about the influence of Dublin gangs on elections in Northern Ireland. Did Dowdall, the Hutch or Kinahan gangs or anyone on their behalf make donations to Sinn Fein that were used directly or indirectly in Northern Ireland?

This is a straightforward question which Sinn Fein should answer.”
