The North Belfast DUP representative said;
"The economic, cultural and social fabric of our city is defined by our nighttime economy. It is that unique mix of our people, our product and our place that makes Belfast so special. The night-time economy is a critical driver not just of economic growth but of cultural vibrancy and community cohesion in Belfast.
Sadly, Belfast remains the only UK regional capital without late night public transport. That must change.
Over the 2024 Christmas period, 17,000 passengers took advantage of the City Centre late-night services offered highlighting the strong public demand. Further to this, Translink's own business case identifies the feasibility and huge benefits this would bring if extended throughout the year.
The £600,000 investment required to deliver this year-round would act as a catalyst for significant economic return, job creation and tourism for Northern Ireland.
Just as my Nighttime economy adjournment debate in the Assembly received cross-party backing, I would urge all Executive Ministers to buy in to this vision for growth and support the calls of our Night Czar, the hospitality industry and other local employers who invest so much in Belfast.
Whilst the lacklustre leadership to date from the Infrastructure Minister to finally pedestrianise Hill Street in the heart of Belfast's Cathedral Quarter highlights the need for a change in the approach of some, the DUP will continue to champion a pro-business environment that drives growth in our nighttime economy - delivering investment and prosperity."
