Mr Brett raised the matter of the floor of the Northern Ireland Assembly today.
Speaking today, Mr Brett said;
"Ulster Champion boxer Daryl Clarke should have been competing at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He was denied his rightful opportunity to represent Northern Ireland because the Ulster Boxing Council decided to change the goalposts for selection to suit their own agenda.
Mr Clarke has now won a substantial settlement against the Ulster Boxing Council under the Fair Employment and Treatment Order 1998. This kind of behaviour by a well-funded body would not be accepted were the victim of any other minority background. I will not allow it to be tolerated in this instance either.
This is not the first case of its kind involving the Ulster Boxing Council. There must be an urgent review of policies and procedures in place to address the widely held perception of anti-British and anti-Protestant bias in the higher echelons of Boxing's local governing body.
I have today contacted funders to express my alarm at this repeated behaviour and demanded that action is taken.
Commonwealth Games NI also mustn't shirk responsibility on this matter. It is incumbent that they give assurances that selection for our National Teams will not be brought into such disrepute again.
Whilst they have been vocal on our Team's flag, it is alarming that they have not found the time to express their view on this disgraceful matter.
I salute all those involved in this case for taking a stand for the next generation, to ensure they are now denied the ability to fulfil their dreams of proudly representing their country, as a result of religious discrimination."
