Upper Bann DUP MP Carla Lockhart has said that the find of a partially constructed weapon is concerning but has welcomed the fact it is now in the hands of the security forces.

The heavy duty weapon was found by police during searches in the Lord Lurgan Park area. It follows an operation by the Security Services which led to the arrest of ten people of which nine have been charged with terrorism offences.

Speaking on the find Carla Lockhart said,

“Whilst I very much welcome this find it is deeply concerning that this was located in a public park. It shows the scant disregard for human life that these people have to leave it somewhere that children could have found it.

This has been a very successful policing operation to date and I commend the police on all the work that has gone into it. They have been very proactive and I do hope that we will see convictions for this abhorrent behaviour.

There is no place for terrorism in Northern Ireland. Those days are behind us. It wasn’t welcome or wanted before and it most certainly isn’t now.”
