Carla Lockhart said,

“During Defence Questions in the House of Commons, I had asked about the rollout in Northern Ireland. The Veterans ID Card has been in the pipeline for a few years but is now well underway and I’m glad more than 1,600 have already been dispatched to Northern Ireland.

Whilst the update has been good, I know there are veterans who as yet have not submitted their application. I encourage them to go ahead and complete the process.

Whether it is accessing benefits or other services, veterans have always found it difficult to prove their service. This card is designed to address this.

In Northern Ireland, ID cards are dispatched in double envelopes with no MoD markings so as protect identities. It is sad that these steps have to be taken but it is sensible and will reassure applicants.”
