Sir Jeffrey welcomes official signing of NI's first City Deal

DUP Leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson MP has welcomed the official signing of Northern Ireland’s first ever City Deal.

The Belfast Region City Deal was today officially signed to begin the delivery of £1 Billion of investment across the region, creating up to 20,000 new jobs, building new world-class visitor experiences and supporting the regeneration of our towns and cities.

The DUP Leader said,

“Today is an historic day for Northern Ireland, marking the official commencement of £1 Billion of new investment across the Belfast region.

The delivery of City Deals for Northern Ireland was a key component of our Confidence and Supply Agreement. From Ballymena to Newry, from Antrim to the Ards Peninsula, the benefits of the funding we secured will be felt across Northern Ireland.

This comes on top of the delivery of another key component of our Confidence & Supply Agreement with a multi-million investment now being rolled out to deliver high speed broadband to rural communities all across Northern Ireland.

Through the creation of 20,000 new jobs, transformation of our infrastructure , delivery of new world-class visitor attractions and regenerations of our towns and cities, we are building a Northern Ireland fit for its new century.

Today is just the start, with rapid progress being made on the Londonderry and Strabane City Deal, the Mid South West Growth Deal and the Causeway Coast and Glens Growth Deal, communities in every corner of Northern Ireland will enjoy the benefits of support from HM Government.

Today has shown that when we work together, there is no limit to what can be achieved. We must now continue to put our shoulder to the wheel and seize these opportunities to deliver a better and brighter future for everyone in Northern Ireland.”
