The Minister has confirmed that he is working with the Department of Health in England on the potential introduction of such certificates.
Speaking after the debate and the launch of her online petition, Mrs Lockhart said: “This week, during a Westminster Hall debate on baby loss, I once again raised the need for baby loss certificates in Northern Ireland. These certificates provide a very tangible way to formally recognise the heart-breaking loss of a baby before 24 weeks. It allows for recognition of the little life that has been lost and would align us with England’s already very successful roll out.
I urge the Health Minister to prioritise its introduction here. It is an optional system, giving bereaved parents the choice to acknowledge their loss in this meaningful way. This is something campaigners have been calling for in both Wales and Northern Ireland, and I welcome the Minister’s ongoing discussions with colleagues in England. I hope to see progress in Northern Ireland without further delay."
In April I launched a petition to gather
public support, and I would encourage people to sign it by clicking on

There should be no prohibitive costs involved in bringing this compassionate measure to Northern Ireland, but it is important we learn from England's experience to ensure a smooth and effective rollout. The public clearly supports this, and I will continue to press the Minister to take swift action on this important issue.”
