DUP Leader and First Minister Arlene Foster MLA has welcomed further progress on the establishment of the Castlereagh Foundation by the Secretary of State, Brandon Lewis.
Mrs Foster said,
"Castlereagh was one of the United Kingdom’s greatest ever statesmen. His work at the Congress of Vienna stands distinguished in diplomatic circles, yet little is known of the man or his work.
The Castlereagh foundation was part of the New Decade New Approach agreement, with funding already set aside. The purpose of the Foundation is to encourage academic research and study for future generations. In many ways, it is a Foundation which should have been established many years ago.
Enabling young people who have ideas about the future of Northern Ireland, to explore those thoughts is critical as we seek to build a Northern Ireland for the next 100 years.
The last twelve months have shown that the British Isles are still home to great thinkers and ideas, yet Northern Ireland has never had a UK recognised platform for people to explore identity and shifting patterns in Northern Ireland."
