Penny may have dropped with Sefcovic, but the Irish Sea border must be removed now

DUP North Antrim MP Ian Paisley has said the penny has dropped with EU Vice-President Maros Sefcovic in the last twenty-four hours that the Protocol is failing but he fails to grasp the urgency.

Mr Paisley said,

“The penny seems to be dropping with the EU that the Protocol is failing both politically and economically but given the devastating effects on Northern Ireland, talking about solutions by the end of the year is unacceptable.

Northern Ireland consumers need the Irish Sea border removed now. This has dragged on too long. The Protocol is costing Northern Ireland £850m per year and has fundamentally undermined landmark political agreements which were carefully balanced. Not a single elected unionist supports the Protocol.

With supermarkets announcing the withdrawal of Christmas products and services, the agri-food sector unable to source seeds, gardeners unable to get plants and almost every Amazon parcel going through customs whilst moving from one part of the UK to another, now is the time for action not more words.”
