Paisley working to secure employment opportunities for P&O staff

Speaking after raising the matter in the House of Commons today, North Antrim MP Ian Paisley said,

"The appalling and most likely illegal sacking of over 800 staff from P&O is a disgrace. My heart goes out to many of these workers and their families.

I spent today talking to employers in County Antrim today. I am encouraged by some offered of support. A number of Hotels in my constituency have offered to collaborate and host a jobsP fair for their hotel groups. Noting that a number of those made unemployed will have significant skill set in the in hospitality the hotel sector believes it can offer opportunities for new employment to these folk.

I understand that Belfast international Airport too is seeking labour for a number of key roles in the airport and logistics management sector.

Finally, the agri food processing and manufacturing sector in my constituency has hundreds of vacancies in those sectors.

I know this is a time of shock and stress but I believe that many of those can find work immediately and I would like to thank these employers for stepping up and offering these jobs."
