East Belfast DUP MLA Robin Newton has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Communities that the Northern Ireland Housing Executive will again be permitted to build homes.
Mr Newton, who is a member of the Assembly’s Communities Committee said, "This is a matter I have lobbied on given the rising demand for public sector homes.
In welcoming this, I and my constituents want to see the details of the decision. There is no doubt that more housing is needed. My constituents will want to know when they might expect to see NIHE on the ground and cutting the first sod. Those who live in the high rise blocks that are subject to demolition are awaiting decisions on new homes. Residents in other blocks of NIHE properties that haven’t seen an appropriate level of investment are awaiting decisions on a future home.”
The DUP MLA concluded, “The Minister needs to provide a detailed statement on timescales, strategy, budgets and outcomes expected from this decision."
