New BBC guidelines don't answer the obvious question: Campbell

East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell has said the BBC’s new guidelines for flagship BBC presenter’s social media comments fail to address whether the comments which prompted the review would be in breach of the new guidelines themselves.

The DUP MP said, “Six months after Gary Lineker’s tweet which prompted this review, the BBC have published new guidelines on social media comments by flagship presenters. In the finest BBC tradition, we now have guidelines in place yet the Corporation cannot or will not tell us, if the same comments are made now, whether they would fall foul of them.

If the BBC cannot answer the most significant and obvious question, then people will rightly ask what the point of the entire process has been. Mr Lineker may well believe the rules are “all very sensible” but they most certainly aren’t clear, and need to be made so”
