MP calls for national honour to recognise Dunlop’s sporting success.

North Antrim MP Ian Paisley has congratulated constituent and racer Michael Dunlop in his magnificent success at the Isle of Man TT races where he is inching closer to equalling what was the unbeatable record of his uncle Joey Dunlop.

The DUP MP said, “It is obvious that he will one day soon surpass that island race record.

This is a magnificent success and more so as it is not a factory machine that Michael races for but his own and private sponsors machine. This is a truly excellent result. In fact nothing could be more fitting for the Dunlop family that this record remains in the family. I know Michael’s family will be so proud of him as are we all. He risks all for this sport and is a true champion.

Michael has been recognised by his town when he received the freedom of Ballymoney some years ago. It’s now time for him to receive a national honour for his sporting success and I would urge the government to move immediately with my proposal. Motorbike racing is in the DNA of Northern Ireland sport. A national honour and recognition is important to mark this.

Well done Michael"
