Speaking in Westminster, Carla Lockhart stated:

“I stand firmly with our elderly and vulnerable. The Labour Government’s decision to cut 200,000 Winter Fuel Payments in Northern Ireland is disgraceful. To make matters worse, they push pensioners to apply for Pension Credit through an overly complicated system.

The online application process spans 22 pages and over 200 questions, with an eight-week wait for decisions. This bureaucratic nightmare will leave many pensioners struggling as they face the cold winter months.

The Labour Party has managed to unite the country — not in support, but in outrage over their targeting of pensioners and the most vulnerable. This Government will be remembered for cutting essential support while ignoring other areas of waste.”
