DUP East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell said,
“Each political party makes nominations to the Education Authority. It is a matter for each party who they nominate although it is entirely understandable the outrage at this Sinn Fein nomination.
Paul Kavanagh was given five life sentences for blowing up Chelsea Barracks in 1981. Had he not been released from prison as part of the Belfast Agreement, his would still have many years of his sentence still to serve.
This is one of the reasons the DUP opposed the Belfast Agreement’s early release scheme. Whilst murderers get on with their lives, the innocent victims are still left with the empty chair or life altering injuries.”
