Upper Bann DUP MP Carla Lockhart has said she has complete faith in the Southern Trust to deal with the issues it is facing with regard to staff and patients who have tested positive for Covid-19.
A number of staff and cancer patients have tested positive for the virus and are being treated in line with their protocols and ensuring that anyone who had contact with them are made aware.
The local MP spoke with the Chief Executive of the Trust this evening (Tuesday) and was assured that at present they had the resources to deal with the issue and still provide the first-class professional care they are known for.
Speaking on the matter Carla Lockhart said,
“I can only praise the professionalism of our health workers throughout this pandemic. My thoughts are with the staff and patients who have tested positive. It has been a long road for the staff working in the face of this virus as well as those patients who now face the dual concern of living with the virus and their illness.
I appreciate the Chief Executive briefing me on the situation. I have complete faith in the Trust to deal with this matter. I have seen first-hand the dedication of our health professionals throughout this pandemic. I wish both them and the patients affected a speedy recovery.
The message remains that we are in the middle of a pandemic and everyone must continue to wash their hands regularly, ensure that you socially distance and stay alert to the fact that the virus remains active and aggressive.”
