Teachers who work in mid-August to facilitate appeals for qualifications including GCSE and A levels will be offered time off later in the academic year.

Dependent on size, schools will receive funding to provide between eight and 16 days substitute cover. Schools can then offer teachers who work to facilitate the appeals process a day off in lieu for each day worked to be taken during the 2021/22 academic year.

Education Minister, Peter Weir said: “I cannot praise enough our school leaders and teachers, who have stepped forward to provide Centre Determined Grades with fairness and consistency. It is due to their dedication and professionalism that our students are being enabled to obtain these important qualifications during the current crisis.

“I am pleased to be able to provide funding to provide substitute cover to offer teachers who work on results days or during this period a day off in lieu later in the academic year. I hope this will reassure teachers that their hard work and dedication is appreciated.”
