“Mothers play an important role in society which I am pleased to highlight and support by co-sponsoring the “Breastival” event in Stormont which coincides with World Breastfeeding Week.
Northern Ireland's breastfeeding rates at discharge have increased from 45.2% in 2013 to 50% in 2020 and Breastival, through webinars, panel discussions and other activities, seeks to support families on their breastfeeding journey from pregnancy to birth, early days and beyond.
Supporting women through pregnancy and their journey into motherhood is incredibly important. As a mother myself, I am happy to see the changes since Breastival came to Northern Ireland and I am grateful for their work to support, normalise and celebrate breastfeeding as part of everyday life in Northern Ireland.
I encourage everyone to take the time to attend this event and support breastfeeding mothers in their day-to-day lives.”
