Speaking following todays statement in the Assembly Mrs Brownlee said;
"I welcome the provisions outlined in the Education Minister’s statement on supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
The plan is a clear recognition of the priority placed on delivering for pupils with Special Educational Needs by the Minister and the growing need for the extension of SEN support.
As someone who sits on the Education Committee, I am aware of the challenges faced by parents, children and teachers at present due to the lack of adequate provision for SEN.
Therefore, the new Special Educational Needs Capital Investment Programme will be welcomed by everyone with an interest in this sector of our school system. The four main strands dealing with Maintenance and Equipment, New Specialist Provisions, Extension of Special Schools and finally New Special Schools will have a real and meaningful impact.
This new programme will help create a fairer and more inclusive environment for our children with Special Educational Needs enabling them to not only grow but thrive in their education."
