Today a new Party consultation paper entitled ‘Promoting Excellence: Improving boys’ educational achievement in Northern Ireland’ has been launched by DUP Education Spokesperson Robin Newton MLA.
Robin Newton said:
“Our young people are our future. In the Centenary year of Northern Ireland, it is vital that we look at our education system and the success of our children and young people. The DUP is committed to ensuring that all children and young people in Northern Ireland have the best start to life and the opportunity to access the best quality education system possible as outlined within our 2019 manifesto and Northern Ireland Plan.
There is a legacy of boys’ educational underachievement and we are committed to addressing this. Initiatives such as Pathway Funding, Sure Start, the Pre-School Education Programme and Extended Schools Schemes have helped to highlight and begin to address this, but now is the time to build on what has previously been achieved and to do more. Given the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic it is more important than ever to ensure that no child is left behind in our education system.
Myself and my colleagues welcome all feedback and comments from interested parties on this consultation paper. The responses will help to shape future Party policy on educational underachievement and make a real difference to those who need it most.”
