DUP Parliamentary Leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has welcomed the Prime Minister’s commitment to share the scientific evidence which the government based its decision to reduce social distancing to one metre in England.
The Lagan Valley MP made the request in Parliament following the statement to MPs.
He said, “The four-nations approach across the United Kingdom has been very important and allowed devolved regions to adapt to local circumstances whilst still working within the overall UK framework.
I am glad the Prime Minister continues to support this approach and will share the scientific evidence and advice upon which the government was able to take its decision on social distancing for England. It is important that we have a co-ordinated approach across the four nations as we move forward.
Moving from 2 metres to 1 metre social distancing would have a hugely beneficial impact across many areas in our society, but not least the hospitality sector. I know that my colleague Diane Dodds has been highlighting these issues for some time and I am glad the evidence will be shared with Ministers locally and I hope they will be able to examine it as quickly as possible.”
