DUP Westminster Leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson MP has reminded the Secretary of State about the importance of the Government delivering on its commitments to Northern Ireland both through the Culture & Community Fund and the development of a Northern Ireland Hub in London.
Commenting afterwards Sir Jeffrey Donaldson said,
“We have been able to work with the Government in recent years to deliver outcomes to help move Northern Ireland forward. There are a number of commitments in the New Decade New Approach which the Government must continue to meet.
The Culture and Community Fund was a commitment by the Government in that agreement. It is critical to keeping faith with the people of Northern Ireland that the NIO demonstrate the direction of travel. The fund was to support cultural development and help various groups in the expression of culture, arts and heritage as well as supporting community halls and bands.
As we steer Northern Ireland through this pandemic, the Government must continue to support our economy. The NDNA committed the Government to scoping out a Northern Ireland Hub in London to complement Invest NI’s efforts. This would be a massive help to those trying to grow our investment product and we need to see this progressed.
As we enter Northern Ireland’s centenary year, we will be pressing the Government to demonstrate progress with a Northern Ireland Trade Plan, Trade Ambassadors, a Trade Accelerator Plan and a “Made in NI” campaign. All these were commitments in NDNA. It is important that the Secretary of State continues to drive these commitments forward.”
