DUP peer Nigel Dodds urges the government to take urgent action to deal with the effects of the Protocol on trade with N Ireland.
Addressing the Lords today he said:
“In his statement the Chancellor talked of the certainty for businesses as a result of the trade deal with the EU. It doesn’t look that way in Northern Ireland where the detrimental economic affects of the Northern Ireland protocol are all too evident as we warned.
The Government must urgently come to solutions, including invoking article 16 of the Northern Ireland protocol as required, in order to smooth the way for frictionless trade and commerce to continue between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.”
Mr Dodds also called on the Government to give an update on the steps which will be taken in the coming days to fulfil the promises made by the Prime Minister on this issue.
