Speaking today in the House of Lords DUP peer Nigel Dodds called for the uncertainty around the victims’ pensions to be removed.
Lord Dodds said:
"It is absolutely essential that uncertainty for victims is removed as soon as possible.
I am glad that the Government , working with us in the last Parliament, implemented legislation for the victims pension and ensured that it would only go to the innocent victims.
Terrorists and their victims should never be equated.
Given that many of the recipients of the pension could be living outside Northern Ireland surely the Government must now step up in terms of the financing of the scheme.
Sinn Fein’s Finance Minister must also work constructively in the Executive to find solutions so that the innocent victims get the help they deserve"
