DUP MLA Robin Newton has expressed concern following a response to a written question which he has tabled to the Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey on homelessness.
Commenting the East Belfast MLA said, “The stark figures presented by the Department for Communities show that there is a serious lack of social housing provision within East Belfast. While social housing applications are recorded by Parliamentary Constituency, figures of those presenting as homeless are only considered by Council area. The Belfast wide figure does not adequately reflect the figures of those in East Belfast who present as homeless and neither is it particularly satisfactory for strategy planning.
I have also pressed the Communities Minister about the targets for new build homes, which were indicated to be ‘miserable’ targets.
The Minister is yet to confirm her new build housing proposals, nor outlined her aspirations, ambitions or objectives. We need action.”
