Speaking ahead of the Policing Board meeting on Thursday, DUP Policing Board Leader and North Antrim MLA Mervyn Storey has said the actions of the police in relation to the Storey funeral were appalling.
Mr Storey said,
“At tomorrow’s Board meeting we will be challenging the Chief Constable and his senior command team about the appalling manner in which the Storey funeral was policed.
As the Party Leader has already outlined, the engagement between the police and the funeral organisers was a factor in no prosecution being made. This is inexplicable and fundamentally harms confidence in policing. That the police assisted in breaking the law is incredible and requires further examination. That is why we are pressing for an investigation by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary. We will be urging the Board to support this step.
Any senior officer who approved of or contributed to the decision-making around this policing operation is also in an untenable position.
We will also be challenging the Board about how Gerry Kelly can continue to sit on the Board."
