The confirmation came in response from Secretary of State Hilary Benn to a written question from the DUP MP.

Commenting Mr Campbell said,

“Last week, my DUP colleagues and I welcomed the commitment from the Northern Ireland Office that the recruitment process for the new Veterans Commissioner had commenced. It is important that the position is filled as quickly as possible, given it has been vacant now for almost two months already.

Yesterday, I was pleased to receive written confirmation from the Secretary of State in answer to my question, that the Government are hopeful announcement of the new Commissioner can be made by the end of the year.

The role of the Veterans Commissioner is essential to the welfare of our veterans, especially given the many instances of post traumatic stress that have emerged over the years. This should help ensure that our veterans are not forgotten, and that they can access support that they need.”
