DUP East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell said,
“There is a continuing need for vigilance in the battle against Covid-19. The positive signs across much of Europe are very welcome. Italy which has the highest death tally in Europe has a daily death rate currently down about 50% from the peak of two weeks ago, the other two Countries where the death toll is highest, France and Spain are also experiencing reductions. Even smaller countries such as the Netherlands and Belgium where the toll was rising from a very low base has begun to reduce. We in the UK should begin to see a similar trend shortly provided we maintain our discipline.
The Government is going to renew the restrictions, and it is absolutely right to do so, however the wider public need to see the hope of some form of normality returning.
There are many downsides to the necessary restrictions, increasing cases of domestic violence, instances of depression as well as the massive issue of preparing our economy for a gradual return to business out of the stagnation that has paralysed the jobs of millions.
The people must see the Government indicating that we are winning the battle against the virus and we all must prepare for the 'Covexit' which is in effect gradually getting ready for what the new 'normal' will look like."
