DUP Health Spokesperson Pam Cameron has welcomed the announcement of a £500 special recognition payment for all Health and Social Care workers in Northern Ireland.
Mrs Cameron who is Vice Chair of the Assembly's Health Committee said,
"This is a welcome and appropriate recognition for our Health and Social Care staff. Such a payment does not attempt to provide financial compensation for the heroic efforts of our staff over the last twelve months but it is a tangible means of paying tribute to them.
It is right too that non-salaried qualifying students who have been on official placement will receive a payment of £2,000. These professionals at the start of their career have been just as much part of the efforts as those who have served for longer.
I know that a number of Councils in Northern Ireland have supported the call for such a 'thank you' payment to be made following proposals from DUP colleagues. I look forward to this progressing and to details in relation to a payment for carers."
